Two new buildings acquired by New Chelsea Society to preserve affordability.
Our acquisition of two buildings in Vancouver reflects what we stand for: preserving long‑term affordable homes, preventing displacement, and ensuring that seniors, families, and long‑time community members can remain in the neighbourhoods they love. Many residents in these buildings have lived there for decades, and protecting their homes is at the heart of our mission.
These acquisitions highlight the impact of the Rental Protection Fund, and we’re honoured that New Chelsea Society was able to contribute in protecting nearly 2,200 affordable homes across B.C

New Chelsea Society is delighted to announce the appointment of Ahmed Omran as our new CEO, effective August 15 2024. Ahmed has been involved in the Affordable Housing Sector in BC for over 13 years. His career highlights include roles at BC Housing, the Aboriginal Housing Management Association and most recently, the Director of Community Real Estate and Asset Management at S.U.C.C.E.S.S. In 2024, Ahmed was appointed to the Real Estate Foundation of BC Board of Governors by the BC Non-Profit Housing Association. Ahmed’s educational journey includes an MBA in Finance and Real Estate, an MSc in International Business, and a BSc in Forest Engineering. He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).Ahmed is a lucky husband of 16 years and the proud father of a boy (11) and a girl (7). His personal time is spent coaching his son’s soccer team, spending time with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors and traveling.

New Chelsea Society wins 2023 Fortis BC Efficiency in Action Award
Patrick Buchannon, CEO of New Chelsea Society, receives Lifetime Achievement Award at BCNPHA Conference
At the 2022 annual conference of the BC Non-Profit Housing Association, held November 21st – 23rd, 2022 in Vancouver, New Chelsea Society’s CEO, Pat Buchannon was presented with the prestigious Denise LeBlond Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in affordable housing. Pat has devoted his whole life to the cause of affordable housing. He’s been a sector leader and change-agent for over 43 years.
He spent 18 years with the Department of Student Housing at UBC (11 years as Assistant Director), and for the past 25 years he has been New Chelsea Society’s CEO.
His many achievements have had a positive impact on the lives of countless low-to-moderate income veterans, seniors, families, and persons with disabilities who live in non-profit housing.
Throughout his career, he has developed new affordable housing; forged effective sector partnerships; created innovative housing programs and processes; and devoted countless volunteer hours sitting on boards of directors and government task forces always ensuring that safe, affordable housing remained in the forefront.
Our heartiest congratulations go to Pat for this well-deserved lifetime achievement award!
